MUSIC VIDEO: Scissor Sisters vs. Krystal Pepsy - Shady Love

As seedy and vulgar as they may be, there's always been something charming about glam-pop-rock-disco-type fusion stuff outfit Scissor Sisters. 2012 sees their return to activity, following up 2010's "Night Work", which peaked at #2 in the UK and #18 in the US but ended up their least commecially successful release.

The first release is "Shady Love", which is credited with a "vs. Krystal Pepsy", either a copyright non-infringing reference to Jake's DJ name (Crystal Pepsi) or some kind of alias/alter-ego for Azealia Banks (who co-wrote and is featured on the track, despite claiming not to be on Twitter). No one really knows what that's all about so go figure.

With everyone already obsessing over the track, I was already a bit...meh..when I first came to it, given how even the most basic songs can occassionally garner a whole lot of "hype" and "buzz" for the flimsiest reasons. Either way, after a few listens I'm left pleasantly surprised, but not particularly impressed, with the track. It's hectic and messy, in an intentional kind of way. Azealia's vocals and Jake's rapping are both good, and the video's school play concept is interesting I guess...it makes for a very pleasing buzz release, but in all honesty the finished product is a bit boring and I'm not all that sure there's actually a good piece of music underneath all the make-up and dried semen.
